Homemade gastank?

Anybody have any idea or thought of what it would be like to make a Homemade gastank for my truck to put in the bed? What material, how big, just asking what you all think. I just cant afford to buy a gas tank but have plenty of time to make one, trying to spend all the money on the body work and frame plans. Thanks, Clay

Here is an idea .... all aluminum, penske truck cast off, repaired & new filler added. Originally I was going to cut the tank in two (25 gal. each) and mount them in bed above original tank location .... but I said - screw it. 1 - 50 gallon fuel fill.

I need to weld mounting feet & closed 4 small holes in the center - formally the fuel sending stuff.







Cost .... free damaged tank, free pro-werks 3" filler neck & cap, my welding time ..... priceless.

As long as you have the equipment and the welding skills it isn't that hard to do. You will want to pressure test it with soapy water to check for leaks prior to filling with gas. Fabbing one out of steel is the least costly, but it can rust inside, causing issues later on. Aluminum or stainless is a better choice, but more $$ and not as easy to weld for the average guy.

I guess if you make it out of steel you could coat the inside with a sealer to help prevent rust. If I remember right either Eastwood or POR makes a gas tank liner material.

this is wat I did for me own truck ,used stainless steel ,cut is out, brake the bottom and top ,make some baffels ,and tig weld everthing to getter

here is mine its an rci but with welding skills you could easilly make something like it.

I made a steel 35 gallon fuel tank for one of my trucks a few years ago. Made out of 1/8" plate. Water tested it and once i got the pinholes i had it dipped and coated at a radiator shop to seal it.
