Wrecker wanted? testing the waters - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I will be picking up my newest addition to the stable later this week, or so I hope. Its a '68 GMC 4x4 long bed (wood floor or the lack there of). So I'm toying with the idea of making this into a wrecker of sorts. It would sure make hauling these projects around alot easier. The truck is in very very good condition body wise, the wood floor in the bed is long gone but the sides and all look ok, and the cab and front fenders are all solid.

So anyone have a wrecker box or some sort of setup that I could bolt onto this beast?

Maybe some info on tow truck wrecking yards, or used parts stores....

I've seen a few wreckers for sale on e-bay, but none of them around us. You could put a flat bed on it like Yukon Jack.

You need to put a wood bed back in it and than add one of these.

I went to look at a 1ton a couple of weeks ago and it had a flatbed (8') on it, that was the best part of the truck. I was toying with getting it to part out so if you're interested in the bed let me know maybe I'll go take some pics for you.

Where in WA are you?

WOW! All very good ideas.

I have looked into the "hide a lifts" However not doing this as a living I can't justify the $6500.00 Price tag.:p I may just put the floor in it and get that 2wd short box I have always wanted. I just figured a tow truck in the family would be just right...
