Thumbs up Eye candy for the stock crowd... My rebuilt&detailed engine!

I finally took the old girl our today for the first drive in about 6 months. After a tank of fresh premium gas and a fresh oil change I took her out for a quick drive down the interstate for a little breaking in. Everything went fine and she runs like a champ. It's great to have her on the road again.

I think the engine came out looking pretty nice. I'm going to get the dog house off and detail up the fender liners and core support nice next winter (Or later depending if I can get the wife to approve the $$$ then!)

I'm going after the bone-stock old-man look on this truck right down to the GULP... A.I.R. SMOG PUMP! Hmm... is there a smog-pump club yet???

I'd have more pictures but the battery on my digi camera is bad. Perhaps it'll work later.

(BTW, the tricks for getting air out of my P.S. pump worked like a champ. Thanks to all for the help!)

Thats pretty cool, when I got my truck I put an edelbrock intake on and a different carb, as soon as I have some free time I want to switch it back to the stock setup. There doesn't seem to be many of us around that are into the whole stock look.

One question though, why did you paint the altenator bracket orange, I don't think I have ever seen them that color.

DON'T TELL ME IT"S WRONG!

Now I won't sleep tonight LOL!

It was that color when I took it off so that's the color it is now. I think (hope) it's correct.

I'm trying to keep things untouched, I kinda half regret painting the engine and valve covers. I will not paint them again and hope they get a little beat to make it look aged :P

Hmm.. now you guys have me wondering. I do remember spending quite a lot of time on that piece stripping off the old paint. If it had been rattle-canned on later I think it would have come off a lot easier. I have 68 advertising lit showing orange alt brackets although they can be inaccurate.

I am looking at my 69 brouchure and the 307 in the picture has a black one. Everything else looks like yours except for the exhaust manifolds painted orange. But then again, the entire frame in that picture is orange and the control arms are yellow. :p

Hmm.. I just looked at my 68 advertising lit and they are black! Oh well.

I wonder why the bracket was orange to begin with?

Tom that looks great. If it matters I believe my 68 bracket was also orange I thought was factory also. I will paint if black because it goes better with my colors but you never know. Sounds like a new poll

See my comments about the paint on this recent topic.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...threadid=56600

Don't get me wrong. The paint came out nice. I just takes A LOT of patience.

Thanks for the comments. I've already had one local Chevy guy tell me that alternator bracket was the wrong color. It looks like I'll be getting that comment a lot. I may get tired of explaining it!

Has anyone else seen a stock 68 egine bay with original paint on the alt bracket?

69Oldie???? Comes to mind.

Cool

I think it would look better slammed and on 20's and I'd shave all the brackets if it were me!

Stock, and like a rock! As intended.

Looking good Tom!
