Transmission seems to slip?

I finally got it running and the trans seems to not be grabbing like it should. Maybe it still needs to be run a little before it gets all of the fluid running through it completely? The trans worked fine when I pulled it and it was rebuilt before I got the truck. The only thing I have done to it is put a new filter in it.......and clean and paint it. Any suggestions?

you double checked the fluid level?
You didn't by chance install an aftermarket converter did you?

Re: Transmission seems to slip?

Mine will sometimes slip off-idle initially, then grab, when I try to go forward if the fluid is low. Kinda seems like that is what yours is doing in the video clip.

Yes, maybe 4 times. It was the tc that was in the truck when I got it. It did fine before I pulled it.

Re: Transmission seems to slip?

Sounds like the trans pump has been stripped according to 2 mechanics. I didn't get the tourque converter on all of the way so I gotta pull the tranny, and get it fixed. THIS SUX!!!!!!!

Re: Transmission seems to slip?

I got the tranny out and let the mechanic look at it tonight. He said there isn't anything wrong that he could tell. He said put it in the truck, jack up the rear tires, and run it in reverse for a little while. I have heard of this before when a trans sits for a long time it will kind of seize. Turbo 400s seem to be a more common tranny for this issue also.

Me to bro! I raised the rear of the truck and dumped in 8 quarts, let it run in reverse for a minute or two that was it! Filled it up with 2 more quarts, cause the torque converter had about 1.5 quarts in it. I was told that an air pocket sometimes will make this problem occur, and it will make it show that the tranny is full when it really isn't. So that is some really good knowledge on the 400!
