Re: ARRGH!!! Which engine?

Thanks for the input I will start looking at some options. I have done a mild build on a 350, a basic build on a 258 for my jeep. But now I am looking at doing something awe inspiring. I decided to build my engine and tranny first. All told I have around $9,000 to play with, but that needs to leave some room for rust repair, etc. I will be starting to build up my parts supply this fall.

I am really thinking that a built LS would be great.

Re: ARRGH!!! Which engine?

Purchase a big block and use a stock cam initially, u will have plenty of other stuff to deal with on your journey to keep u busy. Jazz it up later when u get bored. :}

Re: ARRGH!!! Which engine?

i guess we should be asking what he plans or is looking for in a motor? may help with pointing him in the right direction, and get a more set price range.
(but really a blown I6 solves all problems)

Re: ARRGH!!! Which engine?

I'll tell ya my current combo- Gen VI 454 out of a 98 chevy truck, swapped the cam for a 502HT cam. You can still use the factory roller lifters and valve springs. I added a set of roller rockers and a RPM Air gap intake, an 850 Holley feeds the engine. The truck runs great, I get about 9 mpg with a 27" tall tire and 4.10 gears out back BUT it pulls my 34' travel trailer (11,000lbs) and my 28' enclosed car trailer (7100lbs) with no problems, even up hill! I'm swapping in a built 700r4 now so maybe I can get 12 mpg

Re: ARRGH!!! Which engine?

well since you have a big block why not make it into a 496ci? the extra stroke can only help with the towing and allow maybe a taller tire or gear in the rear for mileage.
