Vortec engine swap

I am thinking about swapping a 5.7 L Vortec and auto OD trans out of a 2000 chevy pickup into my '72 'burb.

Does anyone have any information on this type of swap? Pictures or links would be great.

Thanks in advance,

HAULNRAT

Re: Vortec engine swap

I put in a 7.4L Vortec w/ 4l80e in my 68 GMC swb. Very easy swap, had someone reprogram the ecu, got a aftermarket wiring harness done.

Dropped it in and pluged it up....Im just waiting for my engine oil cooler to come in and it should be ready to go.... I would say go for it, if your lacking the funds or cant find a LSX engine, the Vortec is the way to go...

Re: Vortec engine swap

Didn't LS motors come in pickups starting in 99? I think they stuck with the Vortec 5.7's in vans and some other models for a bit longer.

Re: Vortec engine swap

I have a 1999 5.7l engine out of a Suburban waiting for a project. I'm not sure exactly when the pickups switched. I believe the Subs always trail by a year or two.

There were some old style pickups with the 5.7 in 99, most had 5.3 or 6.0. not sure about vans or subs.

Re: Vortec engine swap

This truck still has the older body style. Must be a work truck because it has the plainer 2 head light grill. We ran the vin with my buddies scan tool and the year and engine size all checked out.
