Re: water inside the door

even with new seals it will still get wet inside. A little water inside is OK, but just like stated above you need to keep the drains at the bottom clear. Even new cars today are designed like this.

they sell foam covers for the back of the speaker, OR just cover the top holes with duct tape

Re: water inside the door

Inside door panels in the mid 70s and back were made of cardboard/pressboard with a vinyl covering that was on the inside surface of the car/cab.
This was protected with a plastic sheet covering that was sandwiched between the inside of the cardboard/pressboard and the metal of the door..
Usually glued or tucked into place..
It kept drain rain water from soaking into the panel and warping it.
This was no longer a problem when inside door panels changed to injection plastic.
You can solve the problem of water damaging your speakers by simply cutting a piece of heavy grade garbage bag plastic, and gluing or taping it into place on the door, and under the plastic panel..
Make sure to seal it completely along the top edge, and drape it down between the door and inside panel and over the speaker where it protrudes into the door cavity..
This will keep water off the speaker.

Re: water inside the door

I used empty antifreeze jugs to cover my door speakers. I use my door speakers as midrange drivers only so this works out perfect. Measure the depth of the inside of the door where your speakers are mounted, I believe mine was around 6.25", I cut the jugs about 1/4" longer so they would compress between the outer panel and the inner panel of the door, with speaker out of the door I folded the jug bottom up enough to fit through the speaker cut out, when I got it through the hole I unfolded the jug and spread the cut lip around the inside of the speaker cut out, before I installed the jug I drilled a hole in each one to run the speaker wire through, after I had it positioned I smeared some silicone around the upper portion of the lip of the jug and the inner door panel to seal out any water that may run down the inside of the door, I didnt seal the bottom edge so any moisture that may get in could drain out. Before I mounted the speaker I filled the interior of the jug with some acoustic foam to help dampen the driver. I then mounted the speaker and that's it! The driver sounds much better and it's never going to get wet.
You could probably use a plastic milk jug or any plastic container that is deep enough to compress between the inner and outer panel. I have used the foam speaker baffles but they arent as stiff and dont dampen the driver as well.

Re: water inside the door

There should be drain holes in the corners of the door, but you probably haven't noticed them because they're packed full of dirt like mine! ;P

My dad had to point em out to me, lmao
