Re: smokin 350

I don't know what kind of smoke you are getting,, but,
My suburban use to smoke while sitting? I changed to Havoline I
bought at Rural King on sale,, it stopped smoking??? and it's all
I use now,, 10-30,,,,20-50 it didn't matter never smoked again....
if it's white smoke its probably a cracked head,, black is fuel,,
have you checked your pvc valve?
I had a valve modulator go bad on my 350 trans and it sucked tranny
fluid up through the hose to the back of the intake and smoke like crazy,,
but the fluid level confirmed that one....
good luck!

Re: smokin 350

They are known for valve seats leaking expecialy if you run it a while and shut off 10 min or so and crank back up but a lil smoke wont hurt its when it stops smoking then I would worry . maybe try some lucas in the oil it will codition the seats and seals that stuff works great.

Re: smokin 350

We need a little more info.
Smoke on start up?
Smokie during accelaration?
Idle?
I'd try the Lucas, but stay away from "rebuild-in-a-can" type products.

Re: smokin 350

I remember that several years ago, one of the truck magazines had replaced the engine in a project truck...seems like it was a 55-57 Chevy. Anyway, they were in CA and also had some smoking issues and you know that the gendarmes in CA don't like that. They went through all sorts of things to try and resolve the smoking and one of them involved bon-ami cleanser. I think they let it be inhaled into the caburetor to try and get the rings to seat, since that was their thinking at the time. Problem is that I don't remember what it was that they did to actually fix the problem, but the cleanser trick wasn't the answer. Wish I could find the magazine and re-read it.
