Re: help rear end gears

Tire size will make a big difference in what gearing is best. What size you got?

Re: help rear end gears

If you drive it daily, your best bet would probably be to stick a different (smaller) cam in it.

Just a guess without much info, but I'd imagine you have a huge cam in that motor, and it doesnt kick in till above 2,500+ RPM's. The cam probably calls for a stall converter and gears.

Unless you have an overdrive transmission, you wont be running over 50MPH for any length of time on the highway if you put a 4:11 in the rear end.

Welcome to the forum mxracer12a. That looks like a solid Blazer you have there.

You mention you have "a 327 out of a 68 camaro, the motor is bored over 60 with a cam" but no mention of what the cam specs are. Knowing more details on what you have and what you are after will be very beneficial in getting good advice.

In general, 3.08 gears were pretty common in the 73-80s trucks. They could be had with 3.42 or 3.73 gears as well. Based on what you have told us so far, I would not recommend a 4.10 gear set. If you currently have a 3.08 ratio, a 3.73 would be a good choice if low end torque is your primary goal. If your looking for better low end, and decent MPG the 3.42 is hard to beat.
