Now im working on the back. My plans were to box in original frame and put a triangular four link setup with airbags. but after alot of measuring i found out the rear had taken a hit on the driver side and tweaked the frame a bit in the rear. so i chopped it off just past the cab and now im in the process of rebuilding it with 2x6 square tubing. ill put some pictures up when i get time to take some. Hope this helps, anything else just ask.....T

Hey thanks guys. Ugly I used 1/4 inch plate for the sub graph. classic 56, I got the idea from someone on this site. i dont remember his name but he did sort of the same thing on his frame. So i cant take credit for the idea, but it works well. I bought some 2x6 square tubing today for the rear frame that im building. Hopefully i can get it built this weekend. i trying to get over a cold. it sucks being sick. Nothing like being 90 degrees out in november and sick...

I would like to see how you do your rear. Are you going to build your 4 link bars or buy some. I am planing on bagging the panel. Hopefully i can get started on it soon.

I found a complete triangular 4 link setup on craiglist for pretty cheap so im goin to use that. i will be sure to take plenty of pictures of the rear end build and post them as soon as i can. im goin to do a build thread soon.If u have anymore questions let me know. if i cant answer it someone on here can for sure. this site is full of guys with endless knowledge.

I did my 48 fairly the same as Troy54GMC did his back in 1980 but didn't think of the bolt it up trick.

I used a rear steering Camaro/Nova subframe and converted it to disk brakes using 72 Monte Carlo pieces. The rear steering box makes using the stock AD core support and radiator easy but makes hooking up the steering a real pain in the tail feathers. I use a U joint out of a 67 Toronado (big and bulky) and ended up moving the column over towards the drivers door about an inch or so.
The big issue with the stubs other than that is that you spend a lot of time trimming the inner fenderwells if you want a presentable appearance.

If you do it, I would highly suggest setting the truck level at the static ride height that you want and then set the stub at it's stock ride height (about 6-1/2 inches from the bottom of the center of the crossmember to the floor) and set both perfectly level and fit them together. That way the Stub will react like it still has the original vehicle on it and You won't have alignment or handling problems. If you try to build rake into it when you weld the stub on you create problems that you can't fix.
