need a shock that travels 8-16"
I'm accounting for about a 20 degree angle, don't want to go any more farther and hurt it's effectiveness.
I have several shocks for mock-up on my '51 but none have the right length and stroke. I've been looking around at shock specs and can't seem to find one that fit's my needs. It will have to travel at least from 8" collapsed to 16" extended. None of the shorter shocks seem to fit that bill. BTW this is a rear shock on my F9000 airbag equipped, trailing arm '50 chevy. Any ideas?

Re: need a shock that travels 8-16"
If your setup requires 8" of travel, the shock is going to be longer than 8" collapsed. A possible fix would be to relocate the mounting points to permit a longer collapsed length or less overall travel (like mounting at an angle).

Check out the "pre-runner" series from doestch tech. Thats what I'm running on the back for my f9000's.

Re: need a shock that travels 8-16"
Thanks, I'll check those out. I did a poor job of explaining the length, I measured from eye-to-eye collapsed and got 8", then raised the airbags and got 16", that's where the 8" travel comes from.

Re: need a shock that travels 8-16"
yeah you need to find out how much stroke you need, so I guess would be 8", then just find the shortest shock from a similar sized vehicle that has that stroke. picking shocks is always a give and take ordeal.
NAPA has a great book where you can use attaching point styles, and lookup by lengths and strokes. |

BTW, I ran the Sensatracs, and they ride great! Those paired with my dominator airbags and my truck rides better than my wifes Lexus, even with my low profile tires. |

Re: need a shock that travels 8-16"
I looked through that chart first, my unique short length is the problem. There aren't any shocks that collapse that far and have any amount of stroke. Looks like I'm going to have to re-design a bit, if I can get a shock with a collapsed length of say 10-11", there are more selections that have the range of travel I need.
