I presume the proud owners of a 73-87 truck with a six banger in it , have all the time to watch the landscape while driving ?
Just kidding... I have a 250ci in my 77 Impala , I'm very happy with it , tough & reliable , oil just leaks from everywhere , and the header is cracked , to long a piece and no meat to hang it on the head. The neighbourhood is not too happy when I fire the engine up but at least the walkers have the time to avoid to go under my tiresIt always fires up , even under 15°C during the last winter ... Has someone an idea if custom headers do exist for a 250 ? I don't trust the stock ones... the Baron ___________________________________________________ 1979 C10 longbed , stock , Olds 350 power 1977 Impala sedan , 250ci , "Ye Old Reliable" 1960 Girl Friend ( frame still good , body has some dents ) |

I just wasn't sure if anyone on the board had'em. I should've known better.
Mine runs good. Just bad main bearings and piston rings (as far as I know). Call me crazy, but I don't want to give up the most reliable engine I've ever driven. 'bout 15 year's worth of hauling 1 ton + loads up and down western PA and taking my teenage years' worth of beating. Up until now the only 'major' work done on the engine was planing down a warped head. After the next rebuild, with easy ohio flat land driving, I'm hoping for another 100,000 plus of reliability.

The I6's are very good engines and very reliable as well! I would like to have a 73-80 driver someday with a warmed over 250 or 292!

You can never knock those old Chevy 6's. Next to the small block V-8, the Chevy 6's were probably the most dependable and durable motors ever made. Cubic inches and availability of aftermarket High Performance parts was their only weakness.
Great engine.

Parts Website for Inline 6 cylinders Their a little spendy but they are known to be very good parts for L6s
As far as the header for the L6, just depends on if it has an integrated head or non integrated head. Integrated has both the manifold and exhaust manifold as one. Non Integrated has the exhaust manifold and intake manifold separate. |

I just gave away my 250 inline from my 72. It had 200,000 miles on it and still ran like a top. But I opted for the ever so popular 350. Somedays I wish I would have kept it and rebuilt it, just to be different. It was the most reliable engine I have ever owned

I have the integrated head on my Impala , don't have any idea how I should put this header off.
First of all , I have to "clean" the area ( alternator , carb , etc...) before I can see a thing I love this engine anyway , for its reliability , the torque at low rev's & the sound it makes The Baron ____________________________________________________ 1979 C10 longbed , Olds 350 engine , stock 1977 Impala Sedan , 250ci , "Ye Old Reliable" 1960 Girl Friend , frame still good , body has some dents... |
