I need cactus proof tires. Got any?
Hey guys! I do a lot of driving through red dirt, mesquite trees, and CACTUS! Not just any cactus though. In Texas we call it Horse Crippler Cactus and for good reason!
The thorns on these things are literally as tough as nails! I've heard of kevlar lined tires, boggers, etc. Most of the time if you put a lot of air in the tire it keeps it up off the side wall and your okay. However I'd like to get the toughest tire I can for the time being. Nothing like changing a flat in the middle of rattle snake country! Here are a few rattlers killed in Tx. Not sure where. Goodyear MT/R w/ Kevlar
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....FR+with+Kevlar I dont know of any others, a high ply sidewall tire should do well, at least 3-4 ply. Also, the HMMWV tires are pretty puncture proof. But you need 16.5 wheels and clearance for 37's. If you clear larger tires, there is always the Michelin XL, XML. Also the Cooper Discoverer ST/C. http://www.offroaders.com/reviewbox/...hp?product=602 Also, DAMN those snakes are huge!

Re: I need cactus proof tires. Got any?
Hey thanks for the replies. I think those honeycomb tires would be a little out of my price range. Plus man they are wierd looking!
I guess I'll just have to way out my options on the kevlar tires and what not. It's still a toss up if I'm going to get 44's or 38's... I'm kind of new to the huge tires. Oh and yeah those snakes are some big dogs. I popped a 4 footer last year with my pistol but it didn't rattle! Something new everyone is noticing. The rattle snakes aren't letting you know that they are there. They dont rattle. They just strike... I'll have to dig a little more on them tires. Thanks again! |

How about Goodyear MTRs?They have what they call "Tri-Guard" sidewalls that are supposed to be pretty tough.
I had a timber rattler strike at me this summer without rattling.I figured I startled it and there was no time.I'm just glad it struck too soon and I was nowhere near striking range.I spun around and just kept saying,"Oh boy...Oh boy...Oh boy...",while pacing around. It really shook me up!

You need bias plys for the strong sidewalls. I assume those don't go through the tread?

Re: I need cactus proof tires. Got any?
i run the BFG KM2's on my Z71, in tx too an never had any problems with em. idk how cactus proof they are but they are supposed to be able to take one hell of a beating, an are popular for rock crawling.
