Clear coat coming off billet wheels

I just bought these wheels a couple days ago, I hadn't really looked at them close until today. I thought that there was some sort of glue or something on them when I got them, but looking at them today I realized that what I thought was glue turned out to be the clear coat coming off. Is there anything that I can do as far as making them look good again? I was thinking about trying to get the clear coat off and polishing them, but I just don't know how it would work out. I'm just not sure what to do about them. Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks guys.
Nick

Re: Clear coat coming off billet wheels

Ya they are all aluminum; one solid piece.

So media blast, polish, and keep 'em polished? Or clear coat them again?

Not billet aluminum wheels for sure.

After you media blast them, it can kind of be up to you at that point.

Clear them again (using a good body shop), polish them and repeat, or paint them and make then your own.

Nick,

you could go this route if you want to take the time and spend a couple of bucks.

Re: Clear coat coming off billet wheels

You can just put stripper on them to remove the clearcoat and then apply lots of elbow grease to polish up.

Re: Clear coat coming off billet wheels

Definately not billet. Just cast aluminum wheels. strip the peeling clear. polish the wheels and have them cleared again. If you dont clear coat you will polishing them constantly

Re: Clear coat coming off billet wheels

Thanks guys. I think that's what I'm going to do. I just found some airplane remover the other day. I think I'll give it a shot on one of these nice days.

Re: Clear coat coming off billet wheels

Been there and have delt with this before. I stripped and polished the offending wheels, but the material under the finsih was a mix of alloys and the polishing was not as clear and sharp as I desired. They became a set of Winter ONLY wheels that I did not spend any great amount of time with and then I put on a set of Billets that did have the proper material to shine up. Most company's that have clear coat use cheaper alloys to keep the cost down on the rims.
