Fuel Value For Under Cab Fuel Filter

I have a fuel filter under my cab below my fear seat fuel tank. I am thinking of putting a value to shut off the fuel line while I am changing my filter.

1) Is this fuel filter normal?
2) What is a good way of doing this?

Currently it is a rubber tube on both sides of the filter with hose clamps to secure the tubes to the filter and the metal fuel lines.

filter is supposed to b between the mechanical pump and carb for best results

It was probably put there by the PO, I have one there as well. On mine, just before and after the filter is rubber fuel hose, all I did was get a pair of vise grips and a couple of washers and clapped the line shut.
It cost nothing

If you are wanting to add a valve you will need to drain the tank's to plum one in, there is no real need for a filter before the mechanicle fuel pump so you could concider just removing it, ether with a rubble hose and or fittings if needed

I have the filter between my fuel pump/carb. and I have this below tank filter. My truck was originally flatbed and probably a fleet vehicle base on the vin number. I am assuming now that the cut was to drain the tank since it is the lowest point in the fuel system.

My up-line line rubber tube is leaking and since Ihave to fix it, I figure a pep-cock would allow me to change the filter.

I like having the filter under the cab, not because it is a filter, but because it is clear. I can see if there is sediment or a clog. It goes back to me working on boats.

I put a filter between the tank & pump on every old truck I get. Sediment can get in the fuel pump & cause the check valves to leak & engine shutdown. To service it you can disconnect the tube at the top of the tank or take off the gas cap & blow some air into the hose going into the filter. This breaks the siphon effect.

Thank you. I changed out the rubber tubing. It was more like a spongy, cracked noodle, then a fuel line. A lot of sediment in the filter.

Amazing how well the engine fires up without air in the fuel line.
