Re: Toro Flow Diesel - what do you think?

ok the engine that is in the truck piks is not a 53 series. as a matter of fact, it is not even a detroit two stroke at all. in the pik you can see fuel lines going to what may be the injectors, and looks like a scalloped rocker cover. two stroke detroits do not have fuel lines or a central fuel injection pump. i am at a loss as to what this engine is. if it is a "toro flow" i will have to do some research on it. having said that, i am a sucker for all kinda odd ball engines & probably would have to take it home. it does have twin straights! really cool truck!

ok here is a link to a photo post of a toro flow outta the truck - you can see it good. the intakes are on the outside of the heads where you would normally see the exhaust manifolds. what kinda drugs do you have to take to dream something like this up?

Interestingly, that is how the induction of the 4.5L "baby" Duramax was going to be - a transverse configuration with the intake on the outside of the cylinder heads, but with the exhaust on the lifter valley side for a more compact routing of the exhaust for the turbo. And, yes, the Toro-Flow was not the Detroit Diesel platform.

Re: Toro Flow Diesel - what do you think?

Both the intake and exhaust are on the outside of the heads. That is just strange.......

GMC V6 engine
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

GMC Truck produced a unique 60° V6 engine from 1960 through 1978. The engine was available in 305, 351, 401 and 478-cubic-inch (5.0, 5.8, 6.6, and 7.8 L) versions. In late production there was also a 432-cubic-inch (7.1 L) version with enlarged crankshaft journals. GMC also made a 637-cubic-inch (10.4 L) 60° V8 with twin balance shafts using the same general layout as the 305. Finally, there was a 702-cubic-inch (11.5 L) "Twin Six" V12, which was basically two 351s placed end-to-end with a common block and crank. A Diesel version was called the ToroFlow.
