Power Steering Question

Hey guys, I have a all original 283 with the original heads (no holes). I am looking to adapt a power steering pump to this motor and eventually an AC compressor. What are you guys doing as far as brackets on motors like mine with no holes in the front of the heads?
Thanks

Re: Power Steering Question

SWP PS setup- off of the engine mount and lower block.
You could have the heads drilled and tapped.
A/C was an option, so there has to be some way to mount the A/C.

or- you could put a set of 305 HO heads on it... heard that it is a good fit- want to try it on the next one.

Re: Power Steering Question

Pretty much any pre-68 passenger car small block power steering pump assembly will work. Probably the easiest power steering bracket to find for a small block with a short water pump is for the '69-'72 pickup. There were a couple variations, but they all bolt to the front of the block and over to the one motor mount bolt. They can be found here in the '67-'72 classifieds and on ebay both used and repro. That is if you can't find anything locally.

Re: Power Steering Question

The automotive aftermarket also has you covered on this. March Performance makes a nice Power Steering Pump Mounting Bracket:

You could also look at the steel brackets offered by Alan Grove:
