That's hilarious, and pretty appropriate, considering some of the ridiculous stuff rat rodders are doing these days. Thanks for the link.

Re: Vintage valve covers

Actually you could use the open air cover to adjust your lifters - switch it to the other side and your good to go there too.

Re: Vintage valve covers

What you could do is get one of those clear valve covers and put underneath, so you only have the illusion of rat-roddishness. ...which is basically what ratrods are anyways, illusion.

Those would work at a valve cover derby. You'd have the only ratrod cover in the race!

Re: Vintage valve covers

Do you think cleaning them up and painting them would lower their value?

Do you think he would sell the lower cover by itself? I already have one to match it and I would hate to have to buy both when I just need the bottom one.

Question & Answer Answered On

Q: Hi. I am building a retro rat rod out of a pickup I found in a field where it sat for 50 years. I want to keep the truck looking exactly like I found it so I am looking for parts with patina like yours. Do you have the motor that goes with these parts? I really want to find a radiator and water pump that has patina similar to your valve covers. Nov-22-10
A: I do have the other parts, but they are going in a show stopper rat rod with a s10 frame a chopped top so low you can't sit in it, 1/2 inch of the ground and a cub cadet mower grill. I may have a few spider web gussets to sell when its done, and I can my rat rods, "Farm Fresh". Keep an eye out, cause it may be featured in Pre Skool Rods.
Q: If I clean these up and paint them will it lower to value? Nov-22-10
A: Its a free country,so you can do whatever you want, but just like the guys on antique roadshow would tell you if you do that. It's worth $25, but if it was still the original finish it would be worth $10,000 if it went to auction today.
Q: I'm curious is this real patina or just some hack job to make the illusion of pantina? If it is real I am ready for the 1000.00 buy it now so I can get free shipping. I just do not want to get them here and find out it was all an illusion. Nov-21-10
A: It is 100% real, it took years to achieve this look. They were left under a virgin timber oak tree, some what near a barn to achieve this quality. Just let me know if you would like a can of Murry's or Royal Crown pomade with it.
Q: Do these valve covers have provisions for any kind of crankcase ventilation either positive or passive? Thanks for the feed back. Nov-21-10
A: These baby's are an EPA nightmare. There is more positive and negative ventilation then allowed by law. Stand by them while it's running and you will finally be a greaser!
Q: Would these have any provision to add oil once installed? Nov-20-10
A: I think the problem might be keeping the oil in, your results may vary.
Q: Do these come with gaskets? Nov-17-10
A: As of right now, no gaskets. When the bidding gets over $100 I will include the gaskets and throw in a can of pomade.
These are classics.
