i know i ask a lot of question sorry which holds a rearend in place better rearend to frame bar or cross link i see both and don't know which better and i'm putting a lot of money in rearend this winter and want it right thanks peter and thanks to all that reply it's you that make this forum great

Not really sure what your asking? Are you wondering about a triangulated 4 link vs straight with Panhard bar?

some have diagonal cross bar and some have panhard bar on rear axle hooked side to side pete

What are you trying to get out of it, Ride, cornering, drag strip? Makes a difference on application as to what may be better. You wouldn't use a 4 link if you are looking for a nice ride. 4 link is more an adjustable drag race suspension. Triangulated 4 bar is a good general setup where the upper bars are shorter than the lowers. Its good if you don't have room behind the axle for a track bar and then you have a straight 4 bar where all the bars are equal length with a track bar or cross link which gives a very nice ride.

Lastly and I personally think the best ride is truck bars like on a 67-72 chevy truck. Very nice ride and NASCAR uses them on the cars for stability.

What I am saying is that a 4 link is not as nice a ride as a 4 bar straight or triangulated and the truck arms are better than all. 4 links are harder to setup for someone thats never done it and much harder to dial in the cornering issues of a 4 link. Its a racing suspension and designed as such. Just My opinion. A 4 bar is easier to setup and gives a better ride, equal length long parralel bars make it that much better and close to truck arms.

I consider the blue setup a 4 link and the other a 4 bar triangluated or straight.

^^both of those setups are 4 bar linkages. The blue setup is a 4-bar with a track-bar as a centering device, which is a drag race only setup. In a turn that diagonal bar recieves an amazing amount of load.

the grey setup is a triangulated 4 bar. This works well and is what I have. No side to side motion of the axle, simple to setup, but does have natural bushing bind. I use large bushing so its not a problem.

then you can have a parallel 4 bar with a streetable centering device. Panhard or watts links are popular.

all these setups can ride good, or crappy. Depends how its setup and what your trying to do with it.

I have to agree with cajundragger. I just ordered a triangulated 4-link from suicidedoors for my '49.

Make your own. They are not very hard to do, and you save money by cutting out the middleman. You can order the ends@ *****************, then order your DOM tubing from the local steel yard. If you can install one, you can build one. It isn't rocket science or impossible.

I thought about that but have my hands full with other projects and we just bought a new home.Its easier to just order one for now. Thanks for the advise though
