D44 to D60
Finally took out the D44 and installed the D60 in my '68. Wow, much larger axle! I like it!

Re: D44 to D60
Congrats on the install. I put one in mine this spring - I sure dig the disk brakes too!

I was thinking about you while putting this in and wondering if you got yours installed. I haven't driven it yet as I am waiting on brake lines. Have you noticed any affect on your turning radius?

Re: D44 to D60
I purchased mine for $800 and was told that it was a runner. OF course, that wasn't the case and I ended up rebuilding the entire thing. I probably have $1600 in it now.

Re: D44 to D60
I went from a closed knuckle Dana 44 so the change in turning radius is dramatically better!

Re: D44 to D60
Hey Breeh not to get off topic, but I noticed in your sig that you have the BTO 700r4 behind a 427. How is it holding up so far? Do you tow with it? I'm looking at a 4l80e but like the 1st gear of the 700. Just curious. The 60 looks great BTW! It's on my Xmas list but I'll probably get a tie or something. Good work!

Re: D44 to D60
I have been running that 700r4 for 8 years now without a single issue. When I put it in there were some guys on here that were against them but it has been a reliable transmission. I get better mileage now with the big block and overdrive then I did with the original 6 banger 4 speed combo that it came with. However, I don't tow anything with it.
I get ties for Christmas too. I make my own list for what I really want

Re: D44 to D60
As an added note now that I have been able to drive it, the turning radius is markedly improved over the D44 and the brakes? Wow!

Re: D44 to D60
Does the ring and pinion match, or do you gotta do a swap.

Re: D44 to D60
Not sure that I understand your question. It had the correct ratio to match my rearend already. Same as the D44.

Re: D44 to D60
Looks great, congrats. It is a great feeling to know that you will not be picking broken axle pieces out of the housing anytime soon. Dana 60 = peace of mind! Good idea on the xmas list too!
