Hood to Air Cleaner Clearance

71 C-10 350
I had to buy an Edelbrock 2101 Performer intake manifold because my stock one had a crack. I'm going to use my stock Quadrajet and air cleaner. This manifold is quite a bit higher than stock and I'm a bit worried that I won't have enough clearance between my air cleaner and the hood. I already know that I'll have to fabricate a short extension piece for the heat riser tube.
Has anyone here used this combination?

Re: Hood to Air Cleaner Clearance

make a large tube up out of aluminum foil put on top of carb close hood. then you can see how much clearance you have

Re: Hood to Air Cleaner Clearance

I'm running nearly the same setup using a performer air-gap (2601) with a quadrajet. I'm using the original air cleaner spacer with the PVC inlet, but using a GM air cleaner with no issues.
I don't have a good picture of the spacer, but can get one if you need.

Thanks Sport/Truck
Very nice set up! If you don't mind, can you tell me what plug wires and water neck you have? Also, I'm curious...Why the fuel regulator?

Re: Hood to Air Cleaner Clearance

Plugs wires are custom made from Kingsborne and are routed in the stock location. If interested I can get you a PN# for them.

The water neck is original (as is just about everything) just cleaned up.

The fuel regulator was necessary because the mechanical pump was running too much pressure. According to Sean at SMI, most mechanical fuel pumps are pumping too much pressure.

Re: Hood to Air Cleaner Clearance

I have an edelbrock rpm intake/750 edel carb, with a 3/4" spacer under it. It runs a dropped base cleaner, with a 4"x14 K&N....O, did a mention the 1 1/2" body drop? The hood still shuts & clears I bet you will find more room there than you think crazyAl

Re: Hood to Air Cleaner Clearance

Space is not an issue under these hoods.
