Stereo Power Question

I was wondering if there was any way that i could somehow wire my stereo to stay on until the doors open after you shut the key off, like the newer vehicles do. I was thinking i could tap into the dome light switches on the door, but that would do just the opposite wouldnt it? My truck is a 72 k10 by the way. Just an idea i have been tossin around in my head, any input would be appreciated

Re: Stereo Power Question

they are on a timed module, that kills the lights, the dome light, radio alows you to open/close windows and all.. it surplies power to all assories untill door is opened or time runs out..
you can do the same thing(- timer) with the door switch and a relay.. use'n the switch as the relays ground, open door ground it lossed radio killed.. so you'll have 2 power sources for the radio.. you'll have to add a diode to the normal power so the relay doesn't backfeed the stock wire'n and fuse box

Re: Stereo Power Question

This website has the wiring diagram to do this. You'll just need some relays and some door switches. The diagram is about half way down the page. Hope this helps:

Re: Stereo Power Question

i put a switch in and it has 3 postions (right of radio)
up on with no key-wired to lighter
middle off
bottom with the key -wired to stock harness wire powered with key
Safer now i don't have to leave the key in for radio
