Nor Cal newbie

Hello all,
I just wanted to introduce myself. I just reached an agreement with one of my customers to purchase his 1957 stepside with a big back window. No photos yet as I have not taken reciept of the vehicle. I will do that soon. I look forward to all the sage advice to be garnered from the sites elders. I can tell you that from a body shop point of view (as in I own a body shop) it is pretty clean. I won't tell you purchase price, suffice to say cheap. I am not looking to keep this original. I would like to have a beautifully modifed daily driver.

Re: Nor Cal newbie

Since I just got it yesterday I am still pondering my options. Since the motor isn't original I am leaning towards a custom build. Is there a bigger demand for a stock ride? It is such a good looking truck with nice wheels and lowered I am leaning that way. I am in the middle of a full original restoration on a 1967 Bronco right now. It is nice but I feel too trapped by the "original" constraints.

Re: Nor Cal newbie

Welcome to the site! Looks like you have a great start to a good build. I say do what you want with the truck. If you want to be able to drive it everyday and cruise it, drop it, throw some independent suspension in there, and a reliable motor. If your into having stuff thats all original and pretty to look at like a time capsul, then go stock. Whatever you do, I say you keep it a GMC, theres so many Chevs out there, its cool to see GMCs.

Re: Nor Cal newbie

I want one!!! If I ever get the chance to do another build I would love to do a 55-57. I love the lines. Welcome and keep us posted. BTW if it's going to be a daily driver for you and you don't mind the ride, I would just update the breakes etc.

Re: Nor Cal newbie

Sorry its been so long since I posted. I have been doing a lot of research on this site regarding a camaro clip and finding our the hood ornament is not original (bummer). I am in the middle of a frame off on a 67 bronco currently so I cant really do too much to this yet. I did get her motor running last weekend.

Re: Nor Cal newbie

Welcome from southern Az.
If you are in the body shop business, I would look at a wreck pick up Late model 5.3 with all of the electronics and the 4L60E and you will have a NEW driver for many miles!!

Re: Nor Cal newbie

Simply Superior Autobody in Concord. We are primarily a collision shop though. This is just hobby stuff. I'd be happy to take a peak at whatever you have. Regarding the changing of motor, Motor and trans are in good shape. What years would be best if I were to look. I had a 2003 corvette with low miles earlier this year that was mine for $3500.00 if I wanted it. I didn't have the truck then though. I think next time I will sit on the car.

Re: Nor Cal newbie

I would think any year low mileage 5.3 5.7 or 6.0 would work motor mounts are all the same place!!
