Mirror Option

I was wondering if we could start a thread on mirror options and which mirrors were available it which years. I did a search and couldn't find a thread like this. I have seen a lot of trucks with mirrors that look like ford mirrors and I don't think they are original but I am amazed how many trucks have these mirrors. I attached a picture of the mirrors I am talking about.

Re: Mirror Option

those do look a lot like ford ranger mirrors, but they are most likely generic parts store pieces. I saw them at auto zone about 7 or 8 years ago and the guy said they've sold them for years.

Re: Mirror Option

The mirror shown in my pic is the standard mirror that came on a 71 or 72 truck if a different mirror option wasn't ordered. It is most often referred to now as the "sport mirror" and has no rpo code.

Re: Mirror Option

These mirrors came on 2 of my 69s. Someone else may be able to provide the range of years they were available. They are listed as RPO code D29 R/V Mirror - JR on both of my trucks.

Re: Mirror Option

My truck had mirrors similar to the ones on that Blazer (You can see them on the picture in my profile). They were aftermarket from Western Auto or someplace like that IIRC

Re: Mirror Option

I wouldn't mind the ones on the Blazer in the OP if there was some kind of billit aluminum spacer block where the top mount is, so that the top of the arm was level.

Re: Mirror Option

I have seen the same mirrors mounted lower on the door and the mirror isn't on the same angle and the top arm is closer to level.

Re: Mirror Option

the sport mirrors are just that....they look sporty at car shows but lack any value when actually used for their intended purpose. my 72 burb 3/4 ton has them and i'm planning to replace with a pair of stainless flip out towing mirrors salvaged from my dad's 84 burb. his 72 burb (before the 84) had the chrome tripod mirrors with the same big head as the towing mirrors and he rigged up a spacer on the tube to bring them out farther for trailer towing and left them that way. the big mirrors work awesome and make a truck look more like a truck

Re: Mirror Option

yeah.....those are the mirrors i'm talking about. my dad's 72 burb had them. with a piece of tube that matches the diameter of the arm and a longer bolt, you can extend them out for trailer towing. converting back and forth would take no longer than a set of towing mirrors and be less bulky. my dad just left the extenders he rigged up on his truck all the time and it really didn't look bad at all. the beauty of these mirrors is they give you the best view out the back due to the big head yet are relatively elegant in terms of mounting arms. they just look good on a daily driver type rig.
