S10/Blazer 4.3/T5 combos T5 question
I have a question, In the S10 and Blazers with the 4.3 and the T5 trans did any of the T5's have the Ford mounting bolt pattern? I know that the last few years for the T5 in the Camaro's and Trans am's with the 5.0 motor had a Ford mounting bolt pattern but looking for any info as to a 4.3,T5 bellhousing had this. I am putting a 4.3 in a Jeep CJ and want to keep the Jeep T5, But also want to keep the 168 tooth flywheel and the 5.0 bellhousing will only fit the 153 tooth. Thanks

Re: S10/Blazer 4.3/T5 combos T5 question
what you need i just sold one.. is a bellhousing out of a 80 AMC spirit or a CJ that had a manual trans with the old 2.5 iron duke 4 cyl.. This will let you run the 4.3 with the ford/jeep trans.
I sold it on ebay for $125 ...last month. you can find one here http://car-part.com/ Last edited by 70BLAZERX2; 10-21-2010 at 09:27 AM. |

Was the T5 ever used behind the 4.3? My '91 4.3 doesn't have a T5, it's an NV3500, with the bellhousing incorporated in the tranny itself.

1993 thru 2002 V6 camaro's and firebirds have a T5 with a ford pattern on them..But its the 3400 / 3800 bellhousings..
The S10 used the T5 chevy pattern bellhousing up to 93 with the 2.8 all 4.3 has the nv3500 with intregal bellhousing. The 1st one is the jeep one 2nd is 93-95 camaro 3.4 |

Re: S10/Blazer 4.3/T5 combos T5 question
66 4x4 said 5.0 so that's the years I was responding to... but that's still very interesting. Why the heck would GM change the mounting pattern and bellhousing when they could just use the same parts as the older 2.8/3.1 cars?

Re: S10/Blazer 4.3/T5 combos T5 question
well it was not really gm that changed that..Borg warner decided to make one main case after 93 -up..to save them a few million dollars as to not have to make more than 1 main case ...And they may have has so many ford left overs..that they told gm to change the bellhousings?
So if you get the jeep bellhousing like in my top pic..you can run a late 93-02 camaro V6 5 speed in about anything..with a V8 chevy. or 4.3 advance adapters want over 400 for the same bellhousing..find an amc origanal one fron the old 2.5 iron duke 4cyl. |

Then wouldn't the 1st gen S10 2.5 bells work just the same? I know those used the Ford style T5 as well.

Re: S10/Blazer 4.3/T5 combos T5 question
The bellhousing you want was used in 4.3 Astrovans. As already pointed out, there were no 4.3 S-10s with a T-5 or Camaros with a V-8 to Ford pattern bell. The Jeep bell in 70Blazer's pic looks like it is for a 153 tooth flywheel.

yes the jeep one is for 153 tooth flywheel. If you dont want to pay the $400 + for the advance adapter one...then the jeep one will work. |

The Astro bell is made for a 168 tooth flywheel and it will be a lot less than $400 used.

Have you seen many T5 Astros? They are hen's teeth in central Ohio, only seen two before, and one was behind a 350. I'm guessing the tranny was not stock in that one.

Re: S10/Blazer 4.3/T5 combos T5 question
I have seen more of the Astro transmissions than the bellhousings. Actually, only one bellhousing. Nobody seems to want the transmissions because they have a weird offset shifter on them.
