How much Nitrous
I have a 496 motor and was curious how much i can spray.
standard 454 4-bolt main 4340 eagle crank 4340 h-beam rods srp forged pistons brodix bb-2 plus heads solid roller cam 1050 dominator brodix single plane intake the most i have ever sprayed was 250 shot. My question is can I spray more without hurting the motor. Thanks for any input. |

Re: How much Nitrous
What kind of rings and what are they gapped at? If you've got the right rings and know how to tune nitrous the right way then your motor will handle plenty more.

Re: How much Nitrous
All I know about the rings is that they are for nitrous. The machine shop ordered them for me.

Re: How much Nitrous
I would find out what the rings are gapped to if you don't know, as that will be a big factor in how much gas it can handle. If the gaps are wide enough, I wouldn't be hesitant to hit a nicely built 496 like yours with 400hp through a fogger (again, with a good tune). I'd probably start at 175-200 and clean the tune up, then slowly move up from there.

Re: How much Nitrous
If N2O rings, i would say about 4-500. Those pistons are no joke.

Re: How much Nitrous
There is many guys at the local track with a lot less motor than you have spraying 2 to 3 systems to get them into the 8's. You should be able to hit 300-400 easy.
It's all in the tune like swb85 said. 1st I would make sure the motor is on a correct tune by reading your plugs on the 1st pass and tune from there on the motor. If the motor is rich the N2o system will be also. You could bang the engine and wound it. Your also going to need to pull proper timing out per tune up. There is a point in were the motor just cant burn all the fuel because the spark is not hot enough and you will blow the fame out. So make sure your plug gap is closed up and run a cut back ground strap. (Champion 295) or = I would also contact your N2o systems rep. Talk to them about your combo and how much you want to put on it. They Should give you a jet set up to run, (35-31 example) a fuel psi LOW or HIGH. I'm kinda partial to high pressure tunes. You will need a flow set up that reads is 10ths or 8ths of a pound of psi. to flow at the given jet size for your tune. Bottle heat = bottle psi. This has to be consistent every time or it changes the characteristics of the tune. Go out and run it down Broadway with a grin ear to ear! Just my 2 cents. not saying I'm right. I personally would like to see some research on running a mag on a n20 system.
