14" wide Rims?

In the new StreetTrucks mag, there is a '71 Chevy running some 24x14 rims with 405 rear tires. Can these tires and rims fit without narrowing the frame and/or rearend? They look good, but not if they are a PITA to put under there. Any insight?

No you have to narrow it. I haven't seen a pic but Extensive built a 50's Ford on 24x14's and it looked sweet!!! I like the narrow wheel look so I dont search a lot of that look lol.

Re: 14" wide Rims?

You can run a 12" wide wheel with stock rails, but 14" is pushing it. If the 14" wheel does fit with stock rails, you will need to narrow the axle.

Re: 14" wide Rims?

It can be done without cutting anything but the wheelwells and bed, but it requires a custom backspaced rim. ProstreetC-10 did it on his truck, read post #54 in this thread.

Re: 14" wide Rims?

Thanks for the thread link! So from the looks of it, with the bed floor cut to the frame width they will physically fit in there. So, is there a reason WHY the rearend would have to be narrowed or is it just for the deep rim look? I would think if the rim was centered over the axle flange it would be fine, but maybe I am overlooking something...
