Hydroboost Question

Hey guys,

I have a question for anyone who has installed a hydroboost into a TF truck under the floor in the original location.

Which bracket did you go with to mount it to the frame and did it use the original brake pedal or a diffent one?

I have looked at the ones that pirate jacks sells and am thinking about using that one but not to sure because it doesn't list the bolt hole dimensions.

Any help would be great.

I have installed them in my Camaro and Malibu. For now I'm just putting a booster in my TF. The mount on the hydroboost is standard. You should be able to use the stock pedal, but you will need a new bracket. The input arm will most likely need to be shortened as well. I think the bracket No Limit sells should be able to be used for a hydro. The master cylinder will be way back under the seat by the time everything in bolted in, Might want to look for a remote reservoir master while your at it.

I have the master cylinder covered, going with a remote fill mounted on firewall.

My only concern is the linkage between the pedal and the hydroboost. The hydroboost unit I have has a rod that I cant get off in order to make it any shorter. I don't want to cut and re-weld it.

That's what I did with mine. I moved the unit back under my bed for ease of maintenance.

if its the rod im thinking of, instead of welding, you can cut it, then thread it.... that will let you spin on a ball joint at the end.
its been a few years since ive messed with one, and im no expert on if they're all the same.. so measure to see if that will work before you cut it.

Kim57 - Thats quite the setup you have going there. Mine isn't going to be that involved since I use it as a daily driver and my bed doesn't tilt up to access the master.

MrDude 1 - Thanks for the idea of threading it. That should work out pretty good. I will have to take some measurments and see if it will work.

I was going to thread mine 3/8x24 but the rod was 3/8" and I couldn't get threads started on it. I believe the rod would have to be slightly smaller to thread it.

i know everything else on the truck is SAE, but if the rod is an odd size, you could always thread a metric thread on it... if its a modern hydroboost its probably a "metric" rod size anyway..

My hydroboost came off a 98 Astro van and it has all metric fastners. But if I have to thread it myself then it will be made into an SAE size.

I got my hydroboost out of an 2005 truck. Some of the fasteners were SAE and some metric. I got my pedal from Pirate Jack and it has a standard 3/8x24 conection on it. That's why I did mine the way I did so I wouldn't have to change it.

Ok, one last question on this subject.

Been doing a bunch of research on this conversion and took MrDude1's recommondation about a threaded rod. Found this site: http://www.tallonhydraulics.com/stor...jogpf5jpf9mes4 that has various lengths of threaded rods for the hydroboost units.

On to my question: how do you get that old rod out, so I can install the new threaded rod?

You should be able to download the instructions, not sure if the pertain to your unit or not.
