57 GMC Heater

Anyone ever seen an in dash electric heater? I was thinking about cleaning up the firewall and removing the heater but I should have some sort of heat/defrost system on the truck.Then I wondered why you could not have a 12 volt heater mounted in the heater box...it would be similar to an electric furnace in the house...any ideas??

I remember years ago a buddy had an electric heater in his 61 Dodge pickup. It looked about as old as the truck and did a decent job. I saw this one at Harbor Freight but after reading the customer reviews everyone said it didn't throw any heat at all.
I think you'd have a tough time finding anything 12v that gives out enough heat (especially since you live in Canada.) If you do find something, let us know.

not to concerned about alot of 'heat' but more to defog the windows if its damp out...will not be running it in the winter and summer is not cold at all for us "Canucks".Think I will try to design something to mount in the heater box.

Any 12V heater that puts out enough heat to be useful will draw a huge amount of current. Look at the wattage on one of your heaters at home, divide it by 12, and that's the number of amps you will need.

don't think it will be a big deal for the small amount it would be used...you can get 12 v heaters I have found upon further research that do not draw tons of amps and should do the job 'I' need.
