472 Caddy in a 67-72?
Just curious. Has anyone here ever shoehorned a 472 Caddy engine into a 67-72 Chevy? I know there is room, just mainly wondering if anyone has done it and if there were any major obstacles that caused problems.

I dont know if a 472 is the same as a 500 but there have been lots of threads on the subject. Maybe do a search on Caddy or Cadillac?

472 is a 500, I think the only difference is the crank. If someone says 500 block, they can mean a 472 or a 500.

yes, the crank is the main thing between a 500 and a 472.
A quick rundown of how I did it... Need a BOP trans to bolt up, possible drive shaft mods depending on tranny chosen Fuel line run onto other side of engine. Dimple firewall on drivers side flatten the flair on passenger side frame rail up towards the front. use 73 - 87 truck engine stands, drill large hole in center, and lop off front lower corner (upon mock up you'll see where it's needed and why) Caddy rear wheel drive manifolds, rear sump pan, I used eldorodo motor mounts, a 425 oil pump is smaller and clears the front crossmember with no trimming, a 69 472 fuel pump is 3/8 in and out with no return line... I think that's about it, plus some moving of wires around under the hood to relocate the alt onto the passenger side. You'll want a 3.07 gear if it is a street driven truck. 4 row rad is a must get strong U joints bald rear tires are a common problem too. MPG generally goes up considerably once you stop playing with the torque and just driving it. |

I have a buddy with a 472 he's about to throw on Ebay. His grandfather ran a funeral home and this engine was in one of the hurses. Car was a local driver, not many miles..

I didn't have to, but I wanted an inch or more between the drivers side valve cover and the firewall.
There's a million ways to do it. |

I CUT the firewall, on my Cad swap....I wanted the weight as far to the rear as possible! He!! it was only the gas peddle that had to move back 1 inch I will tell you square, I didnt do a "3 day build", but it was "dead nuts" when it was done Andy said it right....there are a million ways to do it You can do it fast & dirty.....or play the fab man. If you can play fab man in 2 or3 days, my hat is off to you(you are a better fab man than this old man crazyAl
