Re: Clean 50th
I wonder if he's trying to market it as the 50th anniversary year, or the actual 50th anniversary truck. Either way it's false advertising trying to trick folks..Oh well lol.

Re: Clean 50th
It's not even a '68-unless he changed the front clip.

Re: Clean 50th
The fifth digit in the VIN is a 9 which means it's a 1969. This dealership is an hour from me. They always buy classic cars and do a ****ty job advertising them, and generally over-price them.
They only sell used cars and mostly sell current models. I think they have someone that "likes" old cars so they try to bring a few in but obviously don't know much about some of the ones they bring in.

Re: Clean 50th
I guess that's why they chose not to show the SPID. Not a 50th Anniversary for sure.

Re: Clean 50th
He said Muncie 4 speed, those were only car transmissions weren't they?
Agree that it is not a 68. Not many options and no fan shroud. I didn't know a base truck was worth so much! Last edited by smn69; 12-08-2010 at 02:35 AM. |

Re: Clean 50th
The SM465 (used in a lot of these trucks) is a Muncie transmission.

Re: Clean 50th
I don't get what's going on here?Did the listing get edited or something?I see no 50th anniversary claim and it clearly says it's a '69.I see nothing wrong with this at all.All I see are a bunch of members here blindly jumping on the bash wagon.BTW,a truck transmission with granny low is a 4spd.Back then, the knob read 1-2-3-4.Later the knobs read L-1-2-3,but that's still 4 forward speeds.GM trucks were available with 4spds into the 90s.
We are asked to not get into truck bashing here by the staff. It tends to happen anyway, but if you must,at least be correct in your criticism.

Re: Clean 50th
The original listing has it as a 68 with hints at being a 50th.

Re: Clean 50th
Tim, you would have found humor in the ad before. Everything typed stated 1968, and they had copied and pasted some internet information on the 50th anniversary.
To add to the humor they had pictures of the 1969 owners manual, the VIN which shows it's a 69 as well, so even to a non-truck guy it should have been evident that they are selling a 1969, not the 68 they had originally advertised. I think it was simply a case of the person in charge of putting this stuff on ebay doing some quick internet research with the wrong facts. It did make them look silly initially though.

Re: Clean 50th
I get it now.I hoped that was the case or something was wrong with my eyes. You see this a lot with dealers selling on Ebay. They usually aren't enthusiasts and only know they have a hot one and hype them all they can without knowing anything about the particular vehicle.i've been caught up in seller bashing,i will admit.I think if you want to sell something for top dollar you should stay within what you know and let the vehicle sell itself or learn a little first.

Re: Clean 50th
I saw it too. The bid was much lower at the time. Before I joined I signed up, I knew almost nothing about these trucks except they have beautiful lines. I feel sorry for anybody bidding on the title 50th Anniversary and not knowing the full story! The current bid might reflect that fact.
