I will take a couple of shots of the back when the weather straightens out a little bit. Too snowy/windy/cold right now...

There's someone selling them out of fiberglass already.

also, the fiberglass won't bond to the metal very well, over time it will crack/split/fail etc.

Re: Going To Try Smoothing A Cowl Vent

I had to do major work on my cowl when I chopped the top on my 68. I laid the windshield over and this pulled it away from the cowl. Then I went ahead and filled the vents. Major work. I wished I had thought of the jig idea. Nice job.

I have a fiberglass one. After all is said and done with it, a properly modified original metal one would be better. The fit just isn't there with the fiberglass one. (I'm pretty disapointed in how the fiberglass cowl fits.

Hey Leon, did you ever get those pics from the back side of the cowl. I have an extra cowl that I would like to smooth, but need some informational support.

By golly that is stupid, but we all do it sometime....LOL Most conversions such as this would be using an aftermarket heater/A/C unit inside, like a Vintage Aire system. Those systems do not use the proverbial fresh air inlet, they recirc the air more than anything else.

LOL! I knew i was setting myself up for that but i'm thick skinned enough. All I can say is damn! I wish! But replacing the heater is not in my near future. Thanks!

As far as I can see it wouldn't be a problem. There is plenty of open space around it. I had one on the Blue '67 for a while and still got air out of the kick panel vents.

Yes, they are put there to collect trash so it will rust out your fresh air boxes on the sides of the cowl...

j/k It is for the fresh air vents in the kick panels and air to the heater. Good thought but the designers should have put a screen under them to keep the junk out.

Yes we will but Ron is working on his '64 Chevelle and his brothers '55 Chev Gasser look alike right now so it may be a little while.
