Last work day before the rebuild

A while back I had a great, great aunt that died. She had been a widow since the 70's, no kids, & no will. Ended up that I was 1 of many other heirs to her estate. So last summer we all divided up the contents of her house. Turns out her husband was a parts manager at the local Chevy dealership & I got a few cool old intems he'd had. So while others were debating over who got some old bowls & junk, I went wandering around in the backyard woods.
I was so excited when I discovered an old '50 something (I'm not good with this era years) chevy truck. Even though almost all the parts were gone & a tree growing through it, it was still neat to check out. The bees swarming around the gas filler neck kept me from getting the dash emblem out.
A old Plymouth car was also resting on its side about 100 yards past the truck.

Re: Last work day before the rebuild

Like most everybody in this area, my ancestors farmed. Twisted among the vines & trees I also discovered a McCormick Deering #7 sickle mower. It looked to be all there but would be nearly impossible to get out & the 100 degree summer heat was not very motivational right then. But thought this could be some cool yard art to have! So decided I would wait til the fall to try & drag it out.
Well it's fall now, so last Friday I went back to look & get a game plan about how to get this thing out. Low & behold while there, I also discovered an old corn stalk cutter that I hadn't seen before.
Knowing how much I love old antique equipment & rescuing old rusty stuff, my wonderful husband agreed to spend his Saturday cutting & helping me drag these heaps out.

Re: Last work day before the rebuild

I know your wondering what all this has to do with a Blazer so here's that part... as you can see both pieces of farm equip had been sitting quite awhile. Besides that, there was no way to drive right up to them. So decided to just take the Blazer & winch them out. It had't been cranked in over a month & I was looking for an excuse to drive & work it.
Got to the spot about 7:30 Saturday morning & I think my husband started wondering what he'd gotten himself into. We started with the worst one first, the sickle mower. He cut with the chainsaw, while I clipped all the thorn vines & drug winch cable and chain. This thing was so embedded in vines & junk, I ended up putting the truck against a tree because it was just dragging the truck to it. After about 4 hours we had them both out in the open. It was alot of work , but fun at the same time.
A few things this recovery reminded me of...
1. A winch is one of the most useful tools you can have on a truck.
2. Flat black, $25 a gallon, paint is awesome! No stess over messing up an expensive paint job. You can throw chains, chock blocks, or whatever else on the hood and drive up it the middle of scratchy tree limbs without fear!

So that was the last outing for my Blazer. The rearend is making funny whining noises, steering is very sloppy, transfer pops in 4L, and the motor burns a qt of oil evey 150 miles...it's just worn out.
But we have alot of 1 ton parts to be installed (D60/14 bolt, hydroboost, 205/T400), a set of 37" TSLs mounted on slots in the shed, and plans for a new 383. So my next thread on this old Bucket will be a build thread!!!

Yeah, next time I'm over there, if I can get it out without stirring the bees or something else up. How does it come off?
I would like to get that CHEVROLET strip off too. I'm just not crazy about the thought of sticking my hand up under that dash with the possibility of a sneaky snake or some other critter making that their home for the winter
