700R4 swap to 4l60E

Does anyone know if the computer from a 1990 Chevy 5.7L will control a 4L60E transmission? I swapped the engine into my 70, and then picked up what I was told was a 700R4, only to find out later that it's actually an electronically controlled 4L60E. Is there a way to get this transmission to work with this engine/pcm?

Re: 700R4 swap to 4l60E

a 700r4 is not computer controlled. It only has an electronic lockup converter and maybe an electric speedo output.

the 4L60E requires a computer to control it. You can get a standalone computer to control it.

Another option that may be better is to get a wiring harness/computer from ~94 chevy pickup that had a 4L60E. I'm not sure how much of the engine is the same between a 90 and a 94, but I would imagine they're pretty close to the same.

I don't think a 96+ (I think that's when they swapped to the "vortec" engines was) would work though.

Good luck.

Yeah, I was thinking that a 94 pcm might work, but not sure. Any ideas on where to get a standalone transmission computer? Or could the 4L60e somehow be changed from electronically controlled to mechanically controlled?

You might be able to get a manual valve body conversion. They are definitely available for the 4L80E, but I don't know about the 60.

I don't know what parts will definately swap over, but do you know what they called the 700-R4 after 1991? 4L60!
