Tach differences/install

What are the differences between a 77 tach and an 84 tachometer? Would the 77 tach and fuel gauge bolt right into an 84 cluster and would the fuel gauge work were there is no gauge? or would i need to re wire something?

That helps. But does the tach do anything with the printed circut. Since it gets all its power, ground, signal from separate wires?

Looking at the back of the 79 cluster I just picked up for my 79. I'd say no. As it has the three prongs as mentioned.

Re: Tach differences/install

So I suppose I could get a small fuel gauge for the 84 cluster and put it in (since it should just bolt in) and then stick the 77 tachometer in. thats what im gathering from that kinda..
