Re: Help! where does this starter wire go

The pink wire should have been for your automatic glow plug modulator. You don't need it anymore. As for the wire connector from the transmission... probably from the TPS for a kickdown, but that's just a slightly-educated guess. My 6.2 had a 4l80E on it, with a computer and TPS for the kickdown. And the older ones I've seen for a TH400 are vacuum driven with no TPS (and I have no idea how they actually work).

Does it run and drive without that connector hooked up? If it does, then I'd be willing to bet that it was a diesel specific part.

Re: Help! where does this starter wire go

hmm I think you are right about the transmission plug. But Before i put that engine in i had it in a suburban and it still had the pink wire on the starter and I forgot where it went, does it go to the distributor or something? So i know its not a glow plug modulator

Thanks for the Help!

Re: Help! where does this starter wire go

Does it go to the power side of the starter or the solenoid side? If it's power side, it might just be another power feed for the fuse block or something. I'm not sure. I was thinking the pink wire was left over from the diesel engine. I don't believe anything goes directly from the starter to the distributor; the two wires going to it (if it's an HEI) would be power-to-coil and tach reading. So I don't know where else that one could go.

Re: Help! where does this starter wire go

If its on the small terminal of the starter then it goes to the neutral safety switch or just to the ignition switch if its a manual, but thats weird because its usually purple. The only wires I've heard of coming from a th350 are for the lock-up torque converter, But not positive because I've never seen that.

Re: Help! where does this starter wire go

Let me make sure that I'm understanding this right. That pink wire is on the same terminal as the battery cable. If this is the case then that wire should run to the junction block on the firewall. Hopefully someone else will chime in on this if I'm wrong. I am not familiar with anything from the 80s especially something that used to be diesel.

Re: Help! where does this starter wire go

my 86 6.2 only had 2 wires on the starter.... the power from battery and the purple wire from the ignition switch... mine was military though. The other plug, I think mine had that and I cut it out of the harness.

Solenoid side should be neutral safety switch then.
