New guy from Cali... have a few questions
Hey forum,
Just picked up a 86 GMC Sierra Short bed about 6 weeks ago for 460 bucks so i figured i would hop on a forum and see what is out there for these trucks. The truck is originally a V6 with a 3 speed but has a 350 with a 4 bolt main and a turbo 350 trans. When I bought it the trans wouldnt shift from 1st and the motor leaked horribly. I found out that the motor wouldnt shift due to a missing vacuum line and the motor leaked due to a pressure caused by incorrect valve covers. Since I purchase the truck I have put a aluminum 4 barrel manifold, changed water pump and all hardware, flex fan, mounted the a new trans cooler correctly, fixed coolant resevoir, took the ugly rear Work bumper off and replaced with a normal style, changed grill, replaced interior carpet, bench seat, center caps and wheels painted with new beauty rings and a few other things i cant remember I want to make this a little hotrod truck that i will be able to tow the dirtbikes, a small trailer or a trailered car. Mods in the immediate future are= Cam i have already purchased, valvetrain, edelbrock 4 barrel, mini spool for the rearend, I want to lower it somehow, and maybe a updated 700r tranny(no overdrive is killing me) And now what everyone is waiting for This is what it looked like when i purchased it http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h2...5101755_01.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h2...6100920_01.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h2...7101731_01.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h2...8101053_01.jpg and now... http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h2...1015101725.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h2...01655a_012.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h2...101657_012.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h2...1101904_01.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h2...2101837_01.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h2...2101943_01.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h2...2101944_01.jpg And hear are some of my past projects... Re: New guy from Cali... have a few questions
Welcome.
You truck will be a whole lot of fun, but I'd hold of on all the engine mods. Unless as previously mentioned you have a real cool smog guy. or unless you do the same trick I use. I used to register my smog breathin hotrod every other year lol Last edited by 1LowToy; 12-10-2010 at 11:48 PM. |

Re: New guy from Cali... have a few questions
Funny thing you ask about that area, I was suppose to move to apple valley with my grandparents (they could use the extra help) but no I dont. Would be glad to help you get it done out here in the long beach area take about 30 mins once you get down here

Re: New guy from Cali... have a few questions
Thanks, I may hit you up once I repair some things on it when I know it can make it that far. You'll find some of my old posts in here where I list I need some wiring now, and replacing all the vacuum lines.
