283 build magazine feature
A few years ago Hot Rod Magazine featured a 283 build that got 20+mpg and plenty of pep that they put in a Chevelle.I am wanting to try that setup in my 67 C20.Anyone got that issue in their stash?I would like to know month/year so I can buy one.Thanks

No sir, I missed that issue.....but I have a virgin 64 , 283 block, 2 steel cranks, a set of sj 327 rods & a pair of powerpac heads (packed in grease for the past 20 yrs). I really want to build a lite A-bone rod
 If that "pooch83" finds its way into my truck.....its gonna need a big blower to make that 4200 lb sled "rock"

I remember the engine.I don't remember much about it except that it also had good power.The other thing I "THINK" I remember was that the car had a 5 sp OD and decent rear gears.Keep in mind that the engine is only part of the milage equation and that weight,gearing,tires and many other fatcoirs will have an effect on the MPG.Not trying to rain on your parade but keep in mind the truck will have about 1000#'s extra to move.

In the "rain on your parade" department, it's not only the weight which affects fuel mileage. A Chevelle has a lot less air resistance than one of our trucks.

I have built a number of 355 ci motors that get 20 mpg. Trans, gear, carb selection make more differance than cubic inches.
Good luck with your project. I've always wanted to build a 283.
