Fan Shroud ?

I'm Running a 275 Hp 327 ,4 core Rad. Should I run a fixed fan or a 20" with a fan clutch , & what Shroud will work with a 20" Fan on our trucks ?

Can't advise on the shroud, but IMO use a clutch fan! A fixed fan will always be noisy and rob power. I once temporarily used a flex fan and it didn't cool well at all.

Not to mentione the flax fans giving out and shooting a blade through the hood and any one's head that might be looking over the engine at that particular time.
While I have never heard of anyone being killed, and I admit it may well be an urban legond, I have seen first hand when the blades come free and cut right through the hood and brace. Not pretty. (even GM had a re-call on the stock flex fans)
A clutch with a fixed blade fan is the only way to go. Don't need to upgrade anything, just good condition stock items should cool your engine. I don't even have a Shroud on mine, and I have no problem cooling it.

Guy here in Wichita died about 2 years ago - confirmed on the news. Pretty scary, used to have one years ago. One of the vendors posted some info a while back on the different stock shrouds so hopefully they will see your post and get that info to you. I was kind of thinking about building one out of aluminum, could be a good option if done right.

I'm runnig an alluminum flex fan with no problems but I'm looking at going stainless just to be safe. I got my shroud out of an 80's van and it bolted right in.

Hmmm, a van shroud, never thought of that. Your combo includes a small block with a short, or long pump?

shroud

i missed a shift once and a blade let go and went right thru the hood. The watewr pump then broke off and went thru the radiator. At least if there had been a shroud there, the hood would,ve been saved.........Zoomy

A flimsey little shroud isn't gonna save anything with a flex fan exploding at 6500 RPM...nothing but distance and time will stop it if it makes it through the hood and brace.
