Grab it. and if you don't want it, then take it up north and make a huge profit.

Re: Thinking about a M1009 Military Blazer with 6.2
I picked up my M1009 today at Camp Shelby, MS. It does not look that good and I did not get it that cheap. Still a good deal, tho.
These trucks are pretty cool for what they are, you just have to accept that they are stripped and crude. That big Blazer body tub with no sound deadening makes for a loud hwy ride, or so they say - I haven't had mine on the hwy yet. The 6.2 is no powerhouse by a long shot, but it does have good decent power and excellent fuel economy. They'll get 19 or 20 mpg easily. And that's with 3.08 gears and a TH400 tranny. For $500, I don't see how you could go wrong if it's in good running condition. |

I would definitely do it. I am contemplating selling my 74 Jimmy to buy one locally. I love them!

Re: Thinking about a M1009 Military Blazer with 6.2
That's a steal on that truck. I'd buy it on spot if were me. I love mine. As Bruiser said, they are great on fuel and they a definite cool factor. A turbo makes a HUGE difference in performance, and can be done for $500 - $800 if you keep your eyes open. I have used the 6.5 turbo several times with great results on these engines and I bought used Banks Sidewinder system for this truck. The banks system is a little easiler because it is a bolt on unit, but the 6.5 kit can be bought much cheaper usually. If you keep the boost at about 10 psi and they gain 70 - 80 HP and 120 - 130 ft lb TQ at the rear wheels and are reliable. 10 psi is about the max without lowering compression ratio.
I drove mine all summer long enjoying the 21 - 22 mpg and riding topless. I just bought a gallon of the correct 383 green and quarts of the black and brown and going to repaint the factory Woodland camo.

Re: Thinking about a M1009 Military Blazer with 6.2
Here's one restored by Alfaheaven with factor correct Woodland camo. The SPID on the inner actually has SPECIAL PAINT - CAMOFLAG on it. Its looks so wierd seeing that on a GM tag. The other shots are some on the assembly line when new.

Re: Thinking about a M1009 Military Blazer with 6.2
This started as a M1009:
The original chassis was on ebay a while back, they said they had went with C5 stuff but kept the Diesel? Made me think about being different and putting a Duramax in my '74 2wd. I found it for sale twice. once at 14k, other at 9k? http://www.dragcars.com/Chevrolet---...584514395.html http://www.myaston.com/k/?view=item&...OSTREET+CUSTOM Last edited by Bones_GSXR; 12-07-2010 at 07:51 AM. |

Re: Thinking about a M1009 Military Blazer with 6.2
For $500 I think i'd buy it for spare parts for my M1009.
Is he still selling it & if you're not going to buy it, can you put me in contact with the owner? Thanks, john O>.
