67-72 body on 73-87 frame?
hey guys, plan on starting a 4x4 build sometime in the future,67-72 K-10s are pretty rare in this area but the later generation trucks are everywhere, ive heard conversions from 2wd to 4wd were usually a pain so probably going with getting a donor 73-87 and doing a body swap
ive heard that the body mounts are different, and the cab is a different length which could leave a space between the cab and bed, anything else i may run into along the way? |

Re: 67-72 body on 73-87 frame?
Convert your original frame, it is about equally if not less hassle than mounting to the 73-87 frame. Check out dyi4x.com they have some cool options to make a nice conversion. I have done several 2wd to 4wd 67-72 conversions. You can cheat and get a 2wd frame with rear leaf springs 67-72. The thing is with the 73-87 the body mounts, bumper mounts, and other issues will be encountered. It probably has been done, but a 67-72 frame under a 67-72 truck would look clean. Then again opinions are like.................

Re: 67-72 body on 73-87 frame?
I put a 64 body on a 78 3/4 ton 4x4 454 camper special frame. I did this way for several reasons. I had a 78 that would not pass california emissions visually. I had a 64 complete body with no frame. the 64 style 4x4 uses a weak divorced transfer case, and is also extremely rare. I think the 67-72 swap would be similar to mine. I relocated the cab mounts on the side of the frame, they had to go up a few inches. the rear cab mount pretty much lined up. the 73 up frame is higher in the center, and I had to put 4" spacers under the radiator support and the bed. the steering column took some work and U-joints to line up. I love the 4x4, and I have been driving it about ten years now. there is not any real lift kit, the cab is sitting on the factory bushings on the frame. it ended up 4" higher due to differences as mentioned
