Question '77 leaf rear into a '69 coil rear??????

Hello I have been trying to swap my truck over to the popular 5 0n 5 lbot pattern. I have already put 5 lug disc on the front now time for the rear. The question is I have a '77 rearend from my brothers truck but its leaf. How hard would it be to cut the mounts off of mine and weld them onto the new rear. If that wont work what are some other ideas that you have. By the way my wallets on a diet and I have an excelent welder on hand. Thanks in advance for your help Jim

I've asked this question before in the past, From what I learned it should work, but you have to make sure everything is lined up correctly. I'm needing another rear end for my 72, and thought about the same thing, but paying a welder I can get a used 72 coil from a couple of guys in KC that part out our year of trucks,, I just missed a 72 posi.. (dang, still mad about that), $$$ is always the issue as well..

There is a kit just for this. I comes with correct mounts and an extra long tracking bar that you need because you have to put the mount on the axle tube. You can find a pic of it in the Chevy Duty catilog

Some one was saying (please don't quote me on this) that you can slide the axles into your 69 rear end, and use the drums off the donor...
Is that right?
I know you can use the axles, but the drums will need to be a bit wider to make up the differance.

The 70 diff should be a direct swap for the 71 up axles, but the 69 diff will be a little narrower. i have heard of swapping the longer axles in the narrow diff, & using the wider drums to make up the difference........but I wouldnt try it(I am a picky SOB!). You can get NEW Moser axles with studs, & shipped for about $260 crazyL

Tom thanks for pointingthat out i did not see it that still aint a bad deal if theaxle swap dont work.

71 and up axels will fit in a 1970 rearend but not a 1969 they are narrower.with a a torch and welder anything will fit, just dont cut and weld in one spot for too long, and warped the axel housings.get your pinion angle right.
