Red Hot Headers
I just got my new 350 running in my truck and had it running at idle for about 10 minutes and the header tubes were glowing red hot. What could be causing this?

I've never seen that before! Sounds scary-could be your fuel mixture on the carb is way too lean, I'm guessing here, is it a new or rebuilt carb? I can't think what else it might be........

When I first got my 350 running I had this same problem. It had to do with two thing, timing and carburetion.
I've heard of it happening more often than you think. Good Luck

A very fast idle 2K -3K and a slightly rich mixture will cause it.

safety tip, check your fuel lines between your cab and fuel pump make sure tey aint touching those red hot Headers

I would definitely check your ignition system out!!! I rebuilt a 4 stroke dirt bike a few years ago for a friend and it did the same thing with the headpipe (bright orange) if that all checks out I would be interested to know whats up??? Best of luck, Doug

Lean or late is the rule for glowing headers. You either have a big vacuum leak causing the engine to run very lean, or your timing is retarded too much.
