starting problems... HELP!

so if i let my truck sit for a day or two without starting it i have to poor a little gas in the carb to get it to fire, once it fires it pumps gas in just fine. i have an edelbrock 1405 600 on it, i have a brand new tank, lines, pump and filter, so is it time to buy a new carb or am i missing somthing?

Either the gas is somehow draining out of the carb bowl or your accelerator pump is not working. Take the breather off and pump the gas while looking in the carb. Should be two solid streams of gas when you pump it.

there is nothing when pumping until ive poored gas in and its fired, after that it runs great

sounds like a porous casting to me, the fuel is going somewhere.

is there any way to find out if there is any fuel at all in the bowl? does it matter how many times you pump the throttle? does the accelerator pump ever squirt?
if you crank the engine over a few times and then pump, does fuel come out of the accelerator pump?

You may have a crack in the bowl or something that is allowing the gas to drain out. You could take the top off the carb the next time when it won't start and look to see if there is gas in the bowl.

have you changed your fuel and air filters recently???

have you checked the condition of your sparkplugs??

Is it possible the fuel is boiling out of the float after shutdown? I have heard from some that a phenolic spacer is needed under the Edelbrocks to prevent this.

i do have a spacer under the carb, there is no fuel getting to the carb at all unless i put some gas in it, when i do that it fires a enough to turn faster and pump fuel. then it runs fine, so i think the fuel is just draining out of the carb and line from the pump to the carb when sitting for a few days, the filter is new and the spark plugs are dry.

what your saying is that the fuel in the bowl is gone, and the fuel is not in the system either. I can run my truck completely out of fuel, and it will have fuel to start on its own within about 30 seconds of cranking

yes, the fuel is gone out of the carb and line from the pump up if it sits, then i need to prime the carb the get the motor to tun fast enough the get the fuel pumped to the carb, could i have a bad pump too? once its running there are no problems, only after sitting for days at a time

Sounds like you may also have a bad battery or dragging starter.
