Are there any USA made parts?

Other than original, are there any 67-72 parts being made here in the United States at all?

Re: Are there any USA made parts?

you can expand that question to all automotive parts in general. The answer would b the same.
They are out there, but they are far and few between.

MAR-K

"What makes us different? MAR-K makes its parts in Oklahoma City, USA. We offer QUALITY parts built by Americans for old American-made trucks. That is hard to find these days, in a world of imports. "

Re: Are there any USA made parts?

I don't want to hi-jack the thread.....
But, I am sick of the aftermarket B.S. that they are selling these days. I'm half way tempted to get out of the habit of messing with anything with a "stock" type appearance where I have to deal with aftermarket body parts. Just my $0.02 worth....

Re: Are there any USA made parts?

Youre right. I have thought of fabricating every part I can. I think I'll just spend money on tools instead of buying the stuff since everything is outsourced. It'll look alot more unigue, too(I hope in a good way). :-)

Re: Are there any USA made parts?

Are all of you who want to stop buying foreign made parts planning to do that across the board with all the products you need in your life? Talk "is" cheap and buying nothing but American made products, unfortunately,is just that...talk. It took a long time to get here and I saw it coming in the '70s. In the '80s I bought a Genuine GM Parts wheel bearing for my truck and it had Japan stamped on it. That's when I new we were going down the wrong road. The best I can do is try to only buy foreign when no American made alternative is possible. The best way to buy less foreign is to just buy less and that's what I do. I also try to buy local and/or small businesses whenever possible. It's the large corporations' greed that put us here. It's all about saving a few bucks here and there and now we are thinking of making parts that will cost us 20x more in time and materials. Makes paying a tad bit more for American look cheap.

Re: Are there any USA made parts?

Basically, all I was saying is that Im going to try to make due with what I have by refinishing/restoring parts the best I can to make due. Obviously, that cant ALWAYS be done. But even if you buy only a little less foreign stuff, you would be helping. I guarantee you, if we stop buying foreign materials, they will start being made here again. Simple economics. I, among others, pay close attention to where things are made, and I'll admit that I took too long to do so. But I'm watching now, and that is not just "talk".

Re: Are there any USA made parts?

I remember when I could go to any auto parts store to buy a part, and I had the option of a cheap overseas part, or a more expensive american made part. I always paid the extra, and the parts lasted. eventually it was only overseas parts, and they break as fast as I put them on my truck.
I guess this is "progress"

Re: Are there any USA made parts?

Unfortunately we live in a "Worldwide Economy" It has been a long time coming and no particular party or generation is to blame. We are all guilty of buying imported goods. With today's economic strife and "Made in the USA" parts and goods being the most expensive of the available choices, many of us have made the decision to purchase the less expensive imported goods. There is a reason Walmart is the success it is today.

Re: Are there any USA made parts?

Good points. To me, its not even a quality issue. Its a...where do you want your money to go issue. I would much rather give my money to one of you guys, who might buy a motor, or a fender, or anything from another one of us. I think its mostly a tax issue, our gov't wants to tax our businesses and let the foreign traders come in and get off easy. I didnt vote for Obama, but he isnt entirely to blame, it started decades ago. But he could improve it(he wont, though). Thats why we have to do it ourselves. I'd rather spend $10,000 here, than send $5,000 overseas. Whew, Im glad I researched this before I started my build! This is bad, we gotta wake up. Thanks for the replies, boys.

Re: Are there any USA made parts?

It all goes hand in hand. I hate to say the corporations are the problem, but Americans are. We have all been trained in this generation that having more then the guy next door is better.. and more doesnt always mean quality. I can hang my head and admit that Ive bought foreign because it was cheaper and easier to find. I also buy my socks from walmart. But that because I only get paid $10 an hour selling Chinese made products.

Re: Are there any USA made parts?

I have worn Levi pants since I was a teenager. (I am an old fart now)
the company headquaters were in San Francisco, and they were a made in USA product. now my Levis are made in several countries, and now they suck. they wear out faster than when I was young and hard on them, and no two pair fit the same.

You are so right about that! I honestly don't like going there anymore cause of the changes. The old man ran things alot better. Now lately i've noticed you have to worry about if u find something you like there & then they might get rid of it cause it's not selling enough for them to make money off it and then its clearanced off and gone (happen to me on a few things lately)!

Re: Are there any USA made parts?

Coincidentally, I need a new floor jack. I saw that NAPA's 2 ton professional grade floor jack was on sale. Regular price of $375 on sale for $219! I called to order one right away, and the salesperson tells me it's made in China. I tell him, no thanks, and he tells me he doesn't blame me. So anyway, I am still looking because the only 2 ton American made jack I could find sells for $937! ... Yep... I could only find ONE, and it comes in at just shy of $1000 bucks. I also need a metal cutting band saw... A Chinese Jet or Grizzly will set you back about $800 but an American Do All is about four times that. I'm waiting to buy the Do All, but not very many people are willing to do that. Sad, but true.

PS...Wes is da man,
