how does handle come off of searchlight

i went to a junkyard to get a handle for my search light its a black platic handle for a unity search light ,any ways i took the bottom peice off with the crew driver but the top peice how does that come off i tried taking the nut off but everything started turning

Well, I can't seem to locate my spotlight. I know I didn't sell it but at this point I'm just not sure where I put it... Let me see if I can locate Doug.

alrighty... checked a handle I had in my stash

once you get the cap off (flat head screw holding it on), you look inside the handle. you'll see a brass post and a hex nut. take the handle and hold it. get a deep well 9/16" and try to turn the nut. hopefully it will come off and so will the handle. if not, no sweat. it will unscrew the brass post out of the housing. then with the handle out, the brass post can be gripped with a pair of vice grip and then you can get your socket on the nut for removal.

oh, and try some Liquid Wrench, PB Blaster, etc on the nut before you start wrenching.

Ive also got a unity light, mine came right off when I unscrewed off the nut next to the black handle,and it was easier then I thought

when i went to un bolt it the upper part i took off the bottom cup thing and i went to take th top off it just sat their and spun around and arund with the plastic handle
