I've read, and read, and read. I've had some great advice. Now, I'm (almost) ready to pull the trigger on some wheels.
This is a big deal for me, because I'm not rich. So, I'd really like to get it right the first time.

I have a line on some Boss 338 18's. I know about the machining issue and don't know about the series or whether the mfg.
has fixed the problem or not. With the price differential, I'm willing to grind the front down to fit the wheels.

But, I'd really like to know...and even get pics if you would send them...on this set up.

338 Wheel Finish gray with chrome lip
Size 18 x 9.5Boss Wheel Model
4.5 backspace (in front) , 5.0 backspace (rear)

Model '71 C-10 Short Fleet w/4/6 drop (spindles and coils up front drums/coils in rear.

Tires recommended are 255 55/18's.

I've looked and asked, and read, etc. But I really want to order some wheels now. So I need some expert opinions.
My '72 had 15 x 10's and I don't ebven know the backspacing or tire size. It had a little less drop in the rear, and the wheels looked good on her.

But this new '68 (cab) '71 (everything else) rat is the keeper. RIP '72.
Since I can't afford the paint now, I'd like to do the wheels and tires.

Anybody have input on the wheel or tire size with my set-up?

BOSS never fixed the wheel issue.
If you have 1.25" wide front rotors,... expect to have them machined or run spacers.

If you run less backspacing on the front,... the front wheels will have more "lip" than the rear wheels and look funny. (in my opinion)
I wouldn't try to run a 9.5" wide rim up front with a 4/6 drop.
You really need to measure yourself.
It's a matter of taking your wheels off and putting a straight egde across the back of the rim and measuring down to the "wheel mounting flange".
A 5" backspace on a 18x8 will work up front.
The rear will be more difficult, depending on which rearend you have.
The narrow 67-(early)70 rearend or the (late)70,71-72 rearend.

If I told you a 18x10 with 2" backspace would work,... would you take my word for it?
Get out the tape measure!
Just remember,... 8" rims actually measure 9" wide,... and 9.5" rims actually measure 10.5" wide.
(wheels are measured from inside the bead seating surface)

I'll ABSOLUTELY take your word for it.

I'll order 2- 18 x 10's w/2" backspace and 2- 18 x 8's w/5" backspace.

I bagged my truck and recently bought big wheels where every centimeter counted lol. I bet a measured and asked people for 8 months. I'd measure and then question myself because when airing up and down they'd get closer or further away and close to something else. Very confusing measuring and buying wheels because they aren't cheap and I'm not rich. If a tire shop knows you or some just may let you order a wheel and try it and if they are wrong and a tire was never mounted they can send them back. This may cost you freight but it's cheaper than wheels that can't be returned when they are wrong. The tires are a different story since they can't mount until you buy the wheel. This came in very useful to me and knowing the shop owners son I even took a few wheels and tires mounted home to try them and from them not fitting correct it gave me how much more backspace I may need or narrower wheel.

Take your time and get what you need, it's a hard wait for wheels I know lol.

I was just kidding.
These wheels cost too much to guess or take someone elses word.

For example,... I look at your truck pics.
You may want your 18" rear wheels to set in the fenderwell opening, like the 15" ralley wheels on your truck.
To me,... they stick out too far.
On a hard bump you will rub the tires.
I also like the front tires tucked under the truck more than most.
So my opinion may be completely different than what you have invisioned.
Plus,... are you ever going to bag your truck?
Wheel backspacing on a bagged truck differ greatly from a static dropped truck.
When you air out the bags,... you need the wheel/tire combo to clear the fenders/bedsides.

You need to actually see a truck, that has wheels on it that look good to you,... and ask the owner what combo he is running.

Some like alot of tire sidewall,... some like rubberband sidewalls.

The only 20 x 10s that 338s are made in are 6.25 bs, i think thats it. I used a 1 inch adapter to make it a 5.25 inch. I think my front 20 x 8.5s are 5 inch bs. They dont make but 1 BS, i think they are for 88-98 chevys.

These wheels are 2wd 5x5 truck ralley wheels.
They have small slots all the way around the center.
(just hard to see in these pics)
The bolt-on centercap gives it away.

GM also made a 6-lug 4x4 truck ralley that had a slighly different cap.
The GM "car" ralley was more like the corvette ralley that only came in 5x4.75 bolt pattern.
You can buy the "corvette style" ralley wheel in 5 and 6 lug truck bolt patterns also,... thanks to the many aftermarket wheel companies.
