Puzzled on power steering

Can someone tell me what mods if any will have to be done on my 69 C-10 BB to install a power steering pump w/resevoir. Wanting to use March Performance brackets and pulleys. CPP sells a BB and a SB pump. Whats the difference? Is there a better pump or are they all similar.

OK thanks msgross. Might do that. Still does anyone know if I will have to notch the frame with the March brackets.

Re: Puzzled on power steering

The march billet PS pump bracket that bolts to the lower block holes did not work on my 66. I ended up using a 65 vette mount. Don't know if a march bracket would work on a 67-72 frame. The ones pictured appear to be bolted to the water pump. I wonder if that set up would interfere with your alternator if it is on the driver's side. PS Pumps have return line fittings that point either up or down. Depending on the bracket used the fitting can interfere with the bracket slide area. Can't tell you about the differences, if any, between big block vs. small block pumps other than I think the 71 402 I had had a separate reservoir-but it's been a lot of years. I've got all small block stuff now.

Re: Puzzled on power steering

Yea I have heard that the factory big block trucks had a remote resevoir. Thats why I am curious if there is enough room for the set-up I'm wanting to go with. Im sure someone on here has the right answer for me.

Re: Puzzled on power steering

Is this thread dead?

I have been waiting and looking since Febuary to get an aftermarket bracket for the power steering pump. My truck is a 1970 C30 1-ton, BBC, SWP. The bracket that is required to clear the frame (correct me if I am wrong) is also used on BBC Vettes and Chevelles from the late 60's. The pump sits higher, and further out than the off-the-shelf brackets.

The size of the SBC allows the pump to be mounted close to the centerline of the truck, away from the frame, unlike the BBC. Some SBC brakets look like the pump/pulley would sit inside the C-rail of the chassis.

Black Mountain Precision makes a bracket that looks like it sits 1/2 way between the OEM and aftermarket. I just got one, and have yet to try it. This is the closest I have found to any aftermarket BBC application.

I also have one being machined for me at a local shop. I have been waiting since February for it to be made, and am told it is nearing completion. I started a thread back then: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=380982
Not sure what it will look like or how it will work, but it will be billet aluminum. I'll update the thread when I get it in my grubby little hands.
