factory style gas cap, '78 stepside

Have a '78 step side C10, and someone lost one of the original gas caps to the truck, have yet to be able to locate one. The original ones had that handle/ridge molded into the cap, and all the replacements are a smooth style, which my GF has a hard time unscrewing from the truck (in her defense, the thing does fit awfully snug on the truck, even I've had difficulties getting a good grip on it at times).

I've been looking online, and haven't yet found an original style replacement as a new reproduction or NOS part. Does anyone make them, or is the only option to find one used and recondition it?

Re: factory style gas cap, '78 stepside

The ridge/handle is more rounded, kinda like

That one is spec'ed for a 60's BMW 2002, and I haven't been able to find a picture of what the back side looks like to see if it will fit though.

I've been digging through a bunch of the restoration part place catalogs, and it looks like pretty much all the chevys, fords, and dodges all use the smooth cap, so I'm wondering now if the cap she hasn't isn't original to the truck, and possibly came off of something completely different.

#3 in the illustration, is the correct one for up to 78.

Interesting. So what's on the truck then likely isn't the factory correct part for the truck. Shame really, it fits the lines of the truck beautifully.
