47-54 chevy truck doors/hinge/cab dents.
My 53 had a huge dent in the left side cab from the door opening too far. I've looked at other for sale trucks of the same generation & about half of them have the same damage. Why was this so common? What steps can I take now to not do the same damage? Was the right side doors damaged as often? I'm at a loss fellas, any advice will help. Thanks

Shoot us some pictures! My 53 doesn't have any dents from door, just RUST if it's where I think it is it could be fixed with a patch panel. The dent is caused by bad door stops- easy fix

Are you talking right in front of the door?
If so they are called whiskey dents and they are from the door being opened to far, maybe a gust of wind grabbed the door. My trucks don't have them but I have seen many that have.

It also comes from backing into a post with the door open when backing up. Or a hard stop while going forward with the door open. Of the four cabs I have out here one has that dent and it came off a one and a half ton farm truck that hauled a fuel tank for the last part of it's working live fueling up equipment in the wheat fields.
You have to remember too that unlike a lot of today's trucks these old trucks were purchased to work and work hard and a lot of them had pretty hard lives along the way. And without ac a lot of guys drove through the fields in the summer with the drivers door propped open to let the air flow a bit better. |
